Last October, a Chicopee City Councilor created a petition to move forward the City on municipal broadband. In a feasibility study in 2015, the City found that "the city should build a network, and that it would lower costs for residents while serving as an economic driver for the city" -- but, like Cambridge, progress stalled for years, until a petition with hundreds of signatures spurred the City into action.
Last week, the city started progress on actually building the network, which will offer gigabit speeds to residents for just $70/month.
Chicopee is the latest in a long line of towns in Massachusetts to recognize that the city would benefit from a municipal broadband network. If you think Cambridge should join that list: Make sure you sign the Upgrade Cambridge petition to the City Manager to move forward with municipal broadband right here at home — and join us as we present the petition on September 9th at City Hall!
